Leading researcher in the fields of theoretical chemistry and artificial intelligence tutoring and assessment software bridges the gap between scientific research and theory and successful business ventures.

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania — October 25, 2007, Benny G. Johnson, Ph.D., Co-Founder, President and CEO of Quantum Adaptive Learning, LLC., a developer of artificial intelligence (AI) tutoring, assessment and professional development software will be inducted into the University of Kentucky's College of Arts and Science Alumni Hall of Fame at an awards ceremony held at the Lexington Convention Center on Friday, October 26.

Award recipients have demonstrated distinguished professional accomplishments, outstanding character and a commitment to community service (please see One of four inductees, Dr. Johnson will be recognized for his achievements as a leading expert in the fields of theoretical chemistry and artificial intelligence tutoring and assessment software for science, mathematics and business disciplines.

Dr. Johnson appreciates the importance and value of education. Having grown up on a small dairy farm near the rural town of Russell Springs, Kentucky, Dr. Johnson was inspired by his high school chemistry teacher, Mr. Dale Holder, to pursue a career in chemistry. As an undergraduate at the University of Kentucky, he received Bachelor of Science Degrees in Chemistry and Mathematics. He went on to receive his Ph.D. in Theoretical Chemistry from Carnegie Mellon University working with Professor John A. Pople, a 1998 Nobel Laureate in Chemistry.

Dr. Johnson has been principal investigator on more than 37 federal projects which received more than $9 million dollars in funding. Last year, he was the recipient of the national Tibbetts Award, the highest recognition given by the federal government to small businesses for innovative research, technological innovation and economic impact. He was one of only 55 candidates to receive this award in the U.S. out of more than 4,000 organizations.

As a result of his research efforts, Dr. Johnson has successfully developed and commercialized the world's first and only artificial intelligence Tutors for chemistry education and secured several patented and patent-pending technologies and methodologies. He has also realized the pressing need for quality educational tools for those with special needs and developed the first-ever accessible AI Tutors for the blind and visually impaired with support from the U.S. Department of Education and the National Eye Institute.

Throughout his career, Dr. Johnson has successfully bridged the gap between academic research and business practice and has been a true inspiration and relentless force in improving the quality of education for students across the country.
